UPCOMING EVENTS

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERFAITH BUILD
Wednesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 10, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity welcomes you to join in on an Interfaith Build, where volunteers support the local community by performing a variety of tasks related to home building. To ensure good representation, there is only space for 5 people from each congregation per day, but they will open it up further as space allows. If you're interested, please thoroughly read their Construction Volunteer FAQ and sign up for one or both days by clicking here.

ANNUAL HOME OF PEACE CEMETERY CLEAN-UP
Sunday, August 10, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
The Home of Peace Cemetery Association invites the entire community to participate in our annual clean-up day. Please plan to come for an hour or two to perform the mitzvah of washing headstones. All supplies will be provided. Contact Dave Aqua at (253) 753-3134 or aclassicmustang@yahoo.com to sign up, or for further information.

OPPORTUNITIES

HELP MAKE OUR WEEKLY ONEGS HAPPEN
We're looking for volunteers to help set up or clean up our weekly onegs before Shabbat services. Onegs begin at 5:45 p.m. and end at 6:20 p.m.

Set-Up: Arrive around 4:00 p.m. Prepare and plate pre-purchased food, lay out the table, and prepare drinks so everything is ready to welcome the community.

Clean-Up: Stay after the oneg until about 6:45 p.m. Help wrap things up by storing leftovers, clearing trash, and washing any used dishes.

Whether you can lend a hand once a month or every few weeks, your help makes a big difference. Use this form to sign up and select your options!
Requirements: All volunteers in the kitchen must have a current food handlers license. If you don't already have one, the temple can reimburse you for the cost of procuring one. They can be obtained online via a short, self-paced course.

HELP MARSHALL FEED ANIMALS

Marshall Lundberg's bar mitzvah project is underway: "My name is Marshall and I am 12 years old. My dog, Chopper, was adopted from R.E.D.. He was a rescue dog from Texas that R.E.D. helped find a home—ours! My family recently noticed on their social media page that they needed help with feeding the animals they rescue. It made me so sad that homeless pets couldn’t be fed and they may not be able to help as many animals as they normally could. So, I wanted to help them save more animals by getting them more food." Please drop off dog and cat food—canned and kibble—in the bin located in the temple's rotunda, and Marshall's family will bring them to their shelter!

USE YOUR VOICE TO MAKE AN IMPACT
There have been critical votes in Congress regarding funding for health insurance and food assistance for lower-incomed families in our community: children, older adults and people with disabilities. Organizations such as Jewish Family Services and their Polack Food Bank serve people who rely on this funding. The JFS food bank has been serving record numbers of people.

Advocate and tell Congress that our community needs care, not budget cuts! Sign up to protect Medicaid and SNAP by clicking here.

HELP FIND TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR ISRAELIS ABROAD
Many Israelis find themselves unexpectedly grounded in the U.S. and in other countries, without clear plans for the days ahead. Bayit Beyachad is a community-led hospitality initiative connecting Israelis currently in the U.S. and in other countries with warm and welcoming Israeli-American, Jewish and other families who can offer temporary hosting until travel back to Israel safely resumes. Sign up to find housing or offer to host by following this link.
