Saturday: Torah Study, Shabbat Service and Bar Mitzvah of Eli Reisberg (Multi-access) Saturday, May 11, 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Our Saturday worship experience begins with Torah study from 9:00–9:45 a.m. This will be followed by services and the bar mitzvah of Eli Reisberg, beginning at 10:00 a.m. (online and in person). At the conclusion of the service, the community is invited to join the family in the social hall for a kiddush luncheon!
Meeting Information (Note Thursday date) Thursday, May 23, 7:00 p.m. (Oneg at 6:00 p.m.) Meet and vote on our newest potential board members, vote on amendments to the bylaws, and hear select committee, staff, and officer reports, and updates on temple projects. We need a quorum (a minimum of 50 adult members in good standing) for voting to be possible, so please be sure to attend! In-person and Zoom participation are available: registration link for Zoom will be sent to all members separately.

Absentee Ballots If you are unable to attend due to infirmity or geographic unavailability, you can receive an absentee ballot by calling the office at (253) 564-7101. All absentee ballots must be returned no later than Tuesday, May 21 by 5:00 p.m.

Musical Evening with Interim Cantorial Candidate Tuesday, May 14, 7:00 p.m. The Cantorial Search Committee (CSC) has identified two candidates to provide interim coverage for Cantor Fine when he retires at the end of June. The CSC would like to provide an opportunity for the congregation to meet these candidates and hear them sing. The first candidate, Brad Smith, performed at the May 7 session. Brad has served at TBE in the past as a Cantorial Soloist. The second candidate, Laura Cannon, a Cantorial Soloist from Seattle, will be performing at the May 14 session. Our very own Debbie Jaap will be accompanying her as she performs. Please come and welcome this fine musician! The CSC looks forward to hearing the congregation’s input. Easing Generational Trauma with Mindfulness Tuesday, May 21, 7:00–8:30 p.m. Join JFS and the Holocaust Center for Humanity for a program that will provide a welcoming and safe environment that promotes interpersonal connection and mindfulness practices toward addressing intergenerational trauma. Led by a therapist and trauma-informed mindfulness teacher, participants will learn the effects of generational trauma, enjoy movement and breathing practices, and share experiences with a partner with the goal of choosing one or two to use in their everyday lives. Evening with Josh Tuininga, artist & author of We Are Not Strangers Wednesday, May 22, 4:00–5:30 p.m. Tuininga traces the origins of sequential art—exploring the evolution of the art form and its impact on readers and culture throughout history. He also shares an in-depth look at the sequential art process as he presents his graphic novel, We Are Not Strangers—a true family story which follows a Jewish immigrant’s efforts to help his Japanese-American neighbors while they are incarcerated during World War II. Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice: Upcoming Events JCIJ's annual fundraiser "100 Years Since the Doors Slammed Shut: Immigration Then & Now" will take place on May 19th at 5:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Am, register here. On June 2nd from 1-4 p.m. at the Washington State Labor Council Office, get trained to accompany community members to immigration appointments and more, registerhere.
Teen Leadership Council Teen Leadership Council (TLC) brings students together online to grow their knowledge of Israel, learn how to effectively combat antisemitism, and develop leadership skills. It is open to all high school students. The TLC members meet virtually five times during the semester with StandWithUs professional staff to cover various educational topics and to engage with their peers. At the end of the program, TLC helps participants create an educational program for their peers in their schools and communities. Interested teens should applyhere.
